Mental Health Support Worker Illana recently used her creative skills to support one of our residents to create bowls and figures out of air-dry clay. The sensory experience of using clay has been shown to lower levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, and to produce a calming effect on the mind.
Once the clay has air-dried, the act of painting the pottery promotes creative expression and supports the development of fine motor skills. And at the end of this therapeutic process, we are left with some beautiful creations to ornament the house!
At Ashwell Lodge, we are always looking for new ways to creatively engage with our residents and promote wellbeing.
